Faces of Children of Hope – Esther

Meet Esther!

Esther is a sweet, engaging seven-year-old little girl who joined our Kikuyu home in October 2025. We were pleased to welcome her with open arms into our family!

Let me share a little of Esther’s story:

Esther’s neighbors noticed some things about her home life – things that concerned them so much they brought it to the attention of the Kenyan Children’s Department. They reported that she was often left alone in the house both during the day and night. which left her very vulnerable to abuse and abandonment. She had no supervision, wasn’t being cared for, and did not have access to school.

While the Children’s Department investigated her situation, Esther was placed in our Kikuyu home where we provided her with protection, tender care, and love. When we first met Esther, she was suffering from severe neglect. Praise God, He brought her to us!

It was discovered that Esther’s father had passed away in early 2025, leaving her in the care of her biological mother. Her mother is HIV positive and struggles with alcoholism, making it difficult for her to provide proper care and support for Esther. Her other family members said they were financially unable to care for her or were found to be struggling with alcohol abuse.

After thorough investigations and home visits by Children of Hope and the Children’s Department, it was decided that Esther’s home environment was unsafe for her wellbeing – it was in her best interest to be placed at the Children of Hope Kikuyu Home. This is exactly why we exist – to care for orphaned and abandoned children by creating a nurturing home environment and providing for their every need.

Esther settled in quickly to life in our home. She is a cheerful and friendly girl who speaks English very well. She connected easily with the other children and has become happy and secure in her new surroundings. Esther enjoys singing, playing with dolls, and group games. She is very creative and loves to color and draw. She and Terry have become very close, and she joins right in with the chores like washing her shoes with Morgan in the photo.

It is exciting to provide Esther with some special things she may never have experienced otherwise – like KFC and getting her nails painted. We took the little kids to lunch at KFC as a treat when we visited in April and Esther really enjoyed the chicken! Somehow KFC in Kenya tastes just like KFC in the United States!

Our homes are places of transformation. We provide the children with Christ-centered love and care, so our kids know they are loved, know they are safe, and know they are part of a committed family.

Since Esther is new, she needs sponsorships. If this little cutie got into your heart, Click the donate button and choose “sponsorships.” Write “Esther” in the comment section.

Uncle David Loiborkera has been a part of our Kikuyu home since 2014. He learned about Children of Hope from his friend Solomon, who is security guard at our home. They live close to one another and when Uncle Solomon was home, he would share about the good work CoH was doing, raising up children in a godly environment. David started praying that one day he too would work for us. When a job opened up, David took the very next bus to Kikuyu, presented his paperwork, and was hired immediately!

“David, you are a such a solid, dependable man who is honest, loving, and always on time. We thank you so much and we love you. What a blessing to have you on our team. God bless you.” ~ Uncle Abraham Kiboki

In David’s Words:

There are two shifts I can work at the home, the day shift, 6am-6pm or the night shift, 6pm-6am. Each shift has different responsibilities, but my main job is to ensure the safety of the children, staff, and protect the entirety of the home. I do this by guarding the gate, checking the perimeter, and making sure everything is secure. But the best part of my job is the opportunity I have to be a father or big brother to the children – taking care of and protecting this family God has given me.

It is amazing to see the love and care given to the children here. Every need is met. From the little ones who still need help tying their shoes to the older kids who are away at college – we care for them. Another thing about CoH that has really impacted me is the unity between the staff and the management. The staff is appreciated, valued, and rewarded for their efforts. This is truly a family where everyone – young and old – love and support each other.

There are so many children who are special to me, it is hard to choose. But Elijah is one of them. He is a respectful and responsible young man who has a big heart for the animals – especially the dogs. This means a lot to me because in Kenya, dogs are not really pets, they are security workers like me. They keep me company and help me protect the home throughout the night. The fact that Elijah loves the dogs too is special to me. Elijah also helps with the cows, even milking and feeding them. He is always willing to learn and help and really enjoys spending time with the security team and the uncles working the farm. I see Elijah becoming a strong, responsible, dependable young man.

When I am not working, I enjoy staying in shape. I take a stroll, work around the grounds, and spend time reading or praying.

I want to thank those who support us. Please continue to send the love and prayers that are so evident to us here in Kenya. We are united in action and spirit to serve the children according to the will of God. I am so blessed to be employed at CoH and because of the financial security, I am able to send my children to school and provide for my family’s needs. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to work here.

Uncle David ~ Thank you for your kind, patient, dedicated heart and love for these children. You are a pillar of strength, and we are honored to have you as part of our family.
