28 Feb Love In Our Homes
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 15:13
Love is in the air and this month, we want to share three short stories that spark joy and speak to the amount of love we have for our big, global family.
In our daily devotions, we consider love and family as two of our biggest blessings. In total, we have 100 kids that are cared for and supported by the Aunties, Uncles, drivers, cooks, guards and most importantly, you.
Expressing Love
As part of the international experience we provide through our mission trips, we ask for those attending to come as they are and be ready to share the gifts and talents they were blessed with. One of the highlight projects from the latest 2019 mission trip involved an arts and craft project that brought our kids, Aunties, Uncles, staff and their hearts together.
Once everyone was gathered, the instructions were simple. Each individual was given a squared piece of wood and was asked to put anything they wanted on it. The only additional requirement was that the end product needed to include a heart on it somewhere. It was incredibly fascinating and endearing to see how each of the kids came up with their vision and found ways to portray their own personalities in their work. Once finished, all the colorful pieces were laid out, strung together and hung up to symbolize the heart of the home, the love for each other and the love God has for us. The kids were very happy to see their hearts hung up on the wall and it served as a great reminder of the diversity and talents we have in our homes.
Caring For Each Other
The work our Aunties and Uncles do is unique. They care for our children as if they were their own from the moment they come into our homes and for the rest of their lives. It is thanks to their big hearts, love and unconditional support that many of our children, like Sarah, have been able to build resilience, heal, gain confidence and smile again.
After a traumatic upbringing that ended with the passing of her mother and jailing of her father, Sarah joined our home in July 2015, at the age of eight. With plenty of love and care from the Aunties as well as God’s healing power, it didn’t take long for Sarah to claim control of her life and start working towards the woman she wanted to become. Sarah cares about her siblings and spreads love in our home by sharing hymns or songs with the other kids. Today, Sarah from our Kitalale home has grown to become a sweet, brilliant girl who wears an infectious smile on her face and her heart on her sleeve.
Caring For All Creatures
When it comes to spreading love, Elijah has a special place in his heart for the animals in the Kikuyu home. In our 50 acre compound, we have 12 cows, 15 chickens and many rabbits, four dogs to help provide milk, eggs and additional income for our homes. During the weekends, Elijah usually asks to get assigned to help Uncle Krui, our farm assistant, to help feed the livestock, milk the cows or clean the pens; he just wants to be close to the animals.
Because of their work on the farm, Uncle Krui and Elijah have formed a strong relationship. This past holiday season, Unce Kirui opened his doors to Elijah during the break and brought him home with him to celebrate the holidays together.
In our homes, love has no language or size. Our Aunties and Uncles instill a sense of family in the home by serving diligently and loving wholeheartedly. Our philosophy stems from having a home where children are not just cared for but cared about.
We truly appreciate every single generous contribution and the opportunities they provide us to do what we do. Your donor dollars go a long way and help fund the education of our kids, provide healthy and nutritious meals and help with medical expenses when needed.
