In 2003 we opened our hearts and doors to orphaned, abandoned, neglected and abused children. Children of Hope® provides these children with the love, family, education and home everyone deserves.
Since we started our ministry, several of our children have since grown up, finished college and have successfully transitioned into independent adulthood. As they move on, we continue to welcome new children into our homes and family.
The vision for Children of Hope® was born. With four biological children of their own, John and Sharna Coors adopted six children of varying ethnicities into their hearts and family.
John and Sharna travelled to Kenya and were exposed to the extreme heartbreak of orphaned children there. They became deeply involved in the growth and support of a home caring for orphaned and abandoned children in the Nairobi area.
Called by God to do more, John and Sharna founded Children of Hope®. Their vision was to build a home where children would be well cared for.
Working with a local friend, the Coors chose a rural community whose orphaned children were in the most need of help. Ten acres of land were purchased, architectural plans were drawn up and construction began on the first home.
The Kitalale Home opened its doors and welcomed the first five children with open arms.
Another children’s home in Kikuyu was officially adopted by Children of Hope® and became a second home in the Children of Hope® family.
About 100 children are currently being well cared for and loved thanks to the two Children of Hope® homes. As the older children transition out of the homes, new children are welcomed.
At Children of Hope®, our goal is to build hope and a future for children, and this begins with the provision of essential resources. Our homes have modern utilities necessary to contribute to the health and well-being of our children and staff. Safe water, electricity and sanitation are foundational components to a healthy home, which increases the children’s opportunity to flourish and grow.
We strive to see a generation of children grow strong in their faith in God, who are responsible and successful in their endeavors, and who are empowered to reach their full potential. Our Kenyan staff of ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ work hard in the day-to-day tasks they lovingly perform to instill in the children’s lives a belief in God, love and respect for others, teamwork, a sense of family, and integrity. Your donation enables this work to thrive. Thank you for partnering with our Kenyan staff and with us to further our reach to the orphans in Kenya.
